VIDEO: End the Competitor’s Veto
One of the best parts of working at the Platte Institute is helping Nebraskans overcome barriers to opportunity. There are so many people with great ideas for making life better in our state. But often, working people in our state face obstacles to making life better for themselves and others because of laws that were written without keeping economic freedom in mind.
In Marc’s case, a state transportation law that dates back to the creation of the railroads is now being used to prevent him from providing better services for seniors. Of course, other businesses that benefit from the current law want things to stay the same.
It’s not easy for an individual to stand up and challenge a policy that has been benefiting a group of businesses for a very long time, even when their grievances are correct.
Sometimes, our leaders don’t know if they can afford to side with the individual if the larger group is louder and more organized.
Especially at this time of year, I’m thankful for Nebraskans like Marc and his family who are willing to share their stories.
