New video & podcast series: Nebraskanomics
Platte CEO Jim Vokal takes on Nebraska’s economic barriers
OMAHA, NE — Platte Institute CEO Jim Vokal is the host of the new video and podcast series, Nebraskanomics, which launched this week on YouTube and in audio format on platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. The first episode, Taxpayers Beware: 3 Issues You Should Be Concerned About in Nebraska, is now online at PlatteInstitute.org.
Publicity photos for the series are attached. As with all Platte Institute materials, content from Nebraskanomics may be rebroadcast or republished, in whole or in part, with attribution.
The main focus areas of the Platte Institute’s research and advocacy include regulatory reform, tax policy, and government spending. On each episode of Nebraskanomics, Vokal will offer a big-picture view of the economic barriers Nebraskans in all parties can work together to address in these areas, and host discussions with people who are working to create new opportunities in the state. An archive of past interviews and broadcasts can be found at PlatteInstitute.org/Podcasts.
“Last summer, we launched a new website at PlatteInstitute.org to provide legislative updates through our blog, webinars, and audio podcasts. But what we discovered in the process is that a lot of Nebraskans were searching for relatively basic information about why things are the way they are in Nebraska,” Vokal said.
“Nebraskanomics will get to the bottom of questions like: ‘Why do we have the kinds of taxes or rules for running a business that we have, and how do these policies affect me?’ And then most importantly, we’ll give viewers and listeners direction on how to stop the status quo and help create more economic opportunity in Nebraska,” Vokal said.
Prior to joining the Platte Institute in 2012, Vokal served for eight years on the Omaha City Council, including as president from 2003-2005. A lifelong Nebraskan, Vokal holds a business degree from Creighton University and previously worked as Vice President of Commercial Banking at Mutual of Omaha Bank.
