Occupational board reform act: review of reviews

Occupational board reform act: review of reviews

Beginning in the summer of 2019, committees of the Nebraska Legislature have been reviewing, on a rotating basis, all of the occupational licenses issued by the state under their subject matter jurisdiction.

We provided a report outlining the general state of occupational licensing regulations in Nebraska at the end of 2024.

As we head into the interim, we will review the reviews to date in more detail.

Reviewing our regulations–of all types–regularly is critical to making sure that those regulations are still needed, that they’re serving the public interest effectively, and that regulatory needs are adapting to the changing nature of technology and public accessibility to information.

Ultimately, occupational licensing is intended to protect the health and safety of the public. Still, we acknowledge that licensing and limiting the entrance of new people into occupations may benefit practitioners. The goal of regular reviews should be to tip the balance between those interests in favor of the public at-large.

Be sure to keep your eyes open as we explore the reviews that have been done by the different committees of the Legislature over the last five years.
