  • Lessons from Other States
  • and discussion with legislators and researchers about passing tax reform in the Nebraska Legislature.

The complete program agenda may be viewed here.

WHO: The Platte Institute for Economic Research, the Tax Foundation, keynote speaker and How Money Walks author Travis H. Brown, and the following speakers and panelists:

  • Scott Drenkard & Jared Walczak, Tax Foundation
  • State Senator Curt Friesen (District 34)
  • State Senator Burke Harr (District 8)
  • State Senator Dan Hughes (District 44)
  • State Senator Jim Scheer (District 19)
  • State Senator Jim Smith (District 14)

WHEN: Wednesday, August 17, 2016, 7:45 a.m. – 12:30pm.

WHERE: Cornhusker Marriott Lincoln, 333 South 13th Street, Lincoln, NE 68508

WHY: With likely a dozen or more new legislators headed to Lincoln in 2017, the next legislative session provides a much-needed chance to make improvements to Nebraska’s tax system, which is creating a drag on Nebraska’s growth. While Nebraska ranks favorably in many economic categories, the state’s business tax climate ranking by the Tax Foundation and others ranks Nebraska in the bottom half of the country, and Nebraska lagged behind the national average in job and population growth in the past decade. Keynote speaker Travis H. Brown will discuss Nebraska’s loss of more than $3 billion in annual adjusted gross income since 1992, most of which has relocated to lower-tax states including Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Colorado.

DETAILS: General registration for the 2016 Tax Reform Summit is $20 and includes a lunch buffet. Complimentary event registration is available for elected officials, legislative staff, and members of the media.
