Summary

The Platte Institute provided testimony in support of LR21CA. This resolution is a proposed constitutional amendment. If passed by the Legislature, Nebraska voters would be asked if the state should be constitutionally required to provide all funding for public elementary and secondary classroom expenses, beginning in 2024. Approval of this measure would replace property tax funding of school classroom expenses with state funding (the state is not allowed to levy a property tax under Nebraska’s constitution). Property taxes could still be used to fund bonds for school district capital expenses and other local funding priorities.
